Martin Hoare, Partner and Head of Gorvins Commercial Property team and Senior Associate, Samantha Marcus, supported by environmental specialists ELM led a property deal which saw NPL Group a 400 acre Whitehead Landfill Complex in Astley Green near Leigh in Greater Manchester.
NPL Group, an energy, regeneration and waste management group, purchased the site via their restoration arm, Whitehead Restoration Limited who will now work towards completion of an improved restoration process that will see the importation of soil materials over a number of years.
The site also has a large landfill gas reserve that will continue to provide power for exporting to the grid for many years to come. The Environment Agency have confirmed their agreement to NPL’s plans and the transfer of the environmental permit to them.
This is NPL’s first purchase from Viridor, a major player in the UK waste management market, and NPL are keen to strengthen their relationship with them with further acquisitions in this sector.
Commenting on the transaction Martin said “This was a landmark deal for NPL and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to act for them on it.”
