Stockport-based solicitors Gorvins have hosted a charity football tournament at Soccer in the City in Manchester to raise £1,200 for women’s health charity, the Genesis Research Trust.
Gorvins raised funds for The Genesis Research Trust to increase awareness of the charity among its business networks and the Greater Manchester community. Eleven teams from Gorvins’ suppliers and clients battled it out on the pitch before Natwest Commercial Banking won the final match against Kings Chambers, 2 – 1.
The competing teams, along with Gorvins, who participated to raise money included Booth Ainsworth LLP, Cake Solutions, Cobden House, Carbogen Amcis (part of Dishman Europe), Kings Chambers, Midshire Business Systems, Natwest, Prest Financial, St John’s Buildings and The Vinden Partnership.
Genesis Research Trust is chaired by Professor Robert Winston and its patron is TV presenter Fern Britton. Genesis raises funds for the largest UK-based collection of scientists and clinicians researching the causes and cures for conditions that affect the health of women and babies.
The football tournament is the latest in a series of fundraising efforts to support Genesis Research Trust. Managing Partner Lorraine Lockie is spearheading Gorvins’ activities by taking part in a sponsored cycle ride across Tanzania in November, with a fundraising target of £5,000.
Lorraine’s bike ride marks the start of the firm’s latest CSR drive, which each year will see a different equity partner nominate a charity and lead fundraising activity across the Firm.
Lorraine Lockie, Gorvins Managing Partner, said: “Fundraising for charity has always been important to Gorvins – but this year we are upping the ante, with a year-long fundraising drive for Genesis that is being led from the top.
“We aim to inspire our employees and partners to get involved and make a difference, and the tournament is testament to that.”
Paul Longmire, Marketing Manager and Chairman of Gorvins’ Charities Committee commented: “The charity tournament was a great opportunity to spread the word about the fantastic work Genesis Research Trust does, and raise valuable funds in the process.”
Professor Robert Winston, chairman of Genesis Research Trust also said “we are very grateful to Gorvins for hosting this event and would like to thank them and all the competing teams for their efforts in raising over £1,000. Its great to make people aware of what the charity stands for and to have an event held in the North West is a fantastic opportunity to do this.”
