Gorvins Solicitors Charity round up 2023

As the year draws to a close, it’s once again time to reflect on our year of fundraising in 2023 for Gorvins’ charities of the year.  Our chosen charities were Prevent Breast Cancer and the Alzheimer’s Society, two very special charities.

This year we have raised an amazing £12,000 split between our two charities, going a little way towards helping them to continue their fantastic work.  In doing so, we’ve had lots of fun and made some fantastic memories.

Taking the plunge

The year started with our Military and Personal Injury teams’ polar open water swim whilst still in the depths of winter.  For three of the four team members who took part this was the first ever open water swim, but much to the regulars’ amazement they not only took the plunge, they completed two circuits of the course without wetsuits.

From there we had bake-offs, quizzes, dress-down days, raffles and Harry Potter themed bingo (for reasons only known to the organisers).  The highlight being a certain senior partner winning a junior-sized Harry Potter costume.

The health and safety nightmare of “Piñata Day” will stick in the memory of all that took part (there were a few close misses but somehow we all came through unscathed).

We’d like to say thank you to everyone who put their hands in their pockets and contributed to our fundraising efforts.

But it didn’t stop there.

Some long walks

In September a group of eight team members took on the “Chew Valley Challenge” a 22-mile walking challenge in the Peak District – it was rough and ready – and a real tough test for all that took part!  The team completed the challenge with smiles on their faces (at least once the pub was in sight)!   The funniest moment being when one of the team stepped off the path in a middle of a bog and disappeared up to their waist.

The very next weekend another group of staff took part in the “Memory Walk” at Tatton Park for the Alzheimer’s Society – a really special day for those that took part.

About our charities

Prevent Breast Cancer have a very important ongoing project to raise funds for local breast imaging and training facilities to tackle the local shortage of equipment and radiologists.  We’re delighted to have helped towards them achieving their goals and this vital cause.

The Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and providing hope for the future. With one in three born in the UK today to develop dementia, this is a condition that will touch everyone in some capacity. Donations help them carry out their vital work supporting families and sufferers.
