Legal Aid/Legal Expenses Insurance

We cannot offer representation under the Legal Aid Scheme but, if you have a Legal Expenses Policy included with your car or house insurance, we can liaise with your insurers to arrange funding for your legal representation. If you have a Legal Expenses policy, you are entitled to instruct a solicitor of your choice.

Hourly Rates

Should you wish to instruct us on a privately paid basis, our hourly rates are as follows:

  • Paul Reddy – £320 Plus VAT at 20%
  • Amanda McIntosh – £200 Plus VAT at 20%

Disbursements

In addition to the work that we undertake, it may be necessary to charge for Disbursements separately. Disbursements are necessary fees and charges that we pay to a third party as part of the legal process, such as Barrister’s fees and Expert’s fees. We will advise you of any additional disbursements in advance.

Timescales

Motoring matters usually take between 3 and 12 months to come to conclusion in the Magistrates’ Court. In the Crown Court they can take up to 2 years.

On Instruction, we will provide an estimate of the timescales in your particular case.

Our Fees

We charge on account for the work that we do, as follows:

  • Pre-Charge Representations to the police
    • £500 – £1000 Plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include confirming your instructions, providing advice, liaising with the investigating officer, and the preparation of pre-charge representations.
  • Speeding
    • Guilty Plea – £750 – £1500 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include obtaining and considering the evidence, providing advice, dealing with your instructions, and preparing a guilty plea with mitigation and representation at the Sentence Hearing in the Magistrates’ Court if required.
    • Trial Fees – £3000 – £5000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Trial fees include obtaining and considering the evidence, providing advice, confirming your instructions, and where appropriate the instruction of an expert (expert’s fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees), liaising with the prosecution and arranging representation at the trial hearing 
  • Failure to provide Information of driver
    • Guilty Plea – £500 – £1500 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include confirming your instructions, obtaining and considering the evidence, providing advice regarding plea and how best to proceed, preparing a case in mitigation and arranging representation in the Magistrates’ Court.
    • Trial – £3000 – £5000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include all of the above, in addition to all preparation for trial, taking defence witness statements, and representation at the trial hearing. 
  • Exceptional Hardship application
    • £3000 – £4000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include obtaining and considering prosecution evidence, confirming your instructions, submitting your plea, advising and gathering evidence required in support of your application and representation at the hearing in the Magistrates’ Court.
  • Driving without due Care and attention/careless driving
    • Guilty plea – £500 – £1500 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include obtaining and considering the evidence, advice regarding plea and submission of your plea, preparation of your case in mitigation and representation at a sentence hearing in the Magistrates’ Court where required.
  • Driving without Insurance
    • Guilty plea – £500 – £1500 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees includes obtaining and considering the evidence, initial advice regarding plea, preparation of case in mitigation and submission of a guilty plea in addition to representation at a sentence hearing in the Magistrates’ Court if required.
    • Trial/Special Reasons – £3000 – £4000 plus VAT at 20%

Fees include confirming your instructions, obtaining and reviewing evidence, advising on plea, liaising with the court and the prosecution, submitting your plea, taking witness statements and gathering evidence in support of your defence or Special Reasons in addition to representation at the hearing in the Magistrates’ Court

  • Fail to stop/fail to report an accident
    • Guilty Plea – £750 – £1500 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include obtaining and reviewing the evidence, initial advice regarding plea, preparation of your case in mitigation and submission of your plea in addition to representation at a sentence hearing in the Magistrates’ Court if required.
    • Trial Fees – £4000 – £5000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include obtaining and reviewing the evidence, advising on plea, liaising with the court and the prosecution, submitting your plea, taking witness statements and gathering evidence in support of your defence in addition to representation at the Trial hearing.
  • Driving whilst disqualified
    • Guilty Plea – £1500 – £2000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and considering evidence, advising on plea, preparing a case in mitigation, obtaining character references, and representation at the Magistrates’ Court for the sentence hearing.
  • Application to reduce period of disqualification
    • £3000 – £4,000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering original papers, dealing with your instructions, providing advice regarding supporting evidence, liaising with the sentencing court and the prosecution to arrange a hearing in addition to representation at the hearing in the Magistrates’ Court or Crown Court 
  • DVLA Appeal (Driving Licences)
    • Initial Advice – £1000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Our initial instruction fee includes the making of a Subject Access Request to obtain all information from the DVLA, considering the information from DVLA, confirming your instructions and providing advice regarding how best to proceed
    • Appeal in the Magistrates’ Court – £3000 – £8000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include all of the above, preparation of written request for review and/or Notice of Appeal, liaising with the DVLA, instruction of Experts where necessary (Expert’s Fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees) and representation at any hearings in the Magistrates’ Court. 
  • In charge of a motor vehicle whilst over the prescribed alcohol or drug limit
    • Guilty Plea – £1500 – £2000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea and how best to proceed, dealing with your instructions, preparing a case in mitigation, advising on character evidence and representation in the Magistrates’ Court
    • Trial – £6000 – £8000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea, dealing with your instructions, instruction of experts (Expert’s fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees), obtaining defence witness evidence and representation at hearings listed in the Magistrates’ Court
  • Drink/Drug Driving
    • Guilty Plea – £1500 – £2000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea and how best to proceed, dealing with your instructions, preparing a case in mitigation, advising on character evidence and representation in the Magistrates’ Court
    • Trial – £6000 – £10,000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, providing advice, dealing with your instructions and the instruction of experts where necessary (Expert’s fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees), obtaining defence witness evidence and representation at hearings listed in the Magistrates’ Court
  • Failure to provide specimen of breath, blood or urine
    • Guilty Plea – £1500 – £2000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea and how best to proceed, dealing with your instructions, preparing a case in mitigation, advising on character evidence and representation in the Magistrates’ Court
    • Trial – £8000 – £10,000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, providing advice, dealing with your instructions, instruction of experts (Expert’s fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees), obtaining defence witness evidence and representation at hearings listed in the Magistrates’ Court
  • Dangerous Driving
    • Guilty plea – £3000 – £4,000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea and how best to proceed, dealing with your instructions, preparing a case in mitigation, advising on character evidence and representation at the Magistrates’ and Crown Court
    • Trial Fees – £10,000 – £15,000 plus VAT at 20%
    • Fees include gathering and reviewing evidence, advising on plea, dealing with your instructions, instruction of experts (expert’s fees are disbursements charged in addition to our fees), obtaining defence witness evidence and representation at hearings listed in the Crown Court
  • Causing death by Careless/Dangerous Driving
    • Offences of this nature will usually need to be individually quoted depending on the specific details of the case
  • Police Station Interview under Caution
    • £1500 – £3,000 plus VAT at 20% plus return travel to the station
    • Fees include liaising with investigating officers, dealing with your instructions, arranging interview under caution, attending the police station to provide advice and representation during the interview under caution
